“They want peace”: Trump hints at quick end to Thailand-Cambodia conflict

US President Donald Trump hinted that he helped resolve the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. The Thai authorities confirmed that they are ready to conclude a settlement agreement if the other side shows a sincere desire to do so. However, it was probably not Trump but the rain that helped solve the problem. It is now raining heavily in the areas of military operations, which is why the parties have temporarily stopped. But tensions remain.

Thailand and Cambodia are ready to end the conflict, US President Donald Trump said on Truth Social, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“I just spoke with the acting prime minister of Thailand, and it was a very good conversation. Thailand, like Cambodia, wants an immediate ceasefire and peace. I am now going to pass that message back to the Cambodian Prime Minister,” Trump wrote.

According to him, as a result, the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia “agreed to meet immediately and quickly work out a ceasefire” and then conclude a peace agreement.

Later, Thailand’s interim Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Phumtham Vejjajajayi confirmed that the country was ready to make peace, but with a condition:

“I had a conversation with President Trump, who demanded that Thailand and Cambodia immediately conclude a truce. I thanked President Trump for his concern and said that Thailand is generally in favor of a truce. However, Thailand would like to see Cambodia’s sincere intention.”

The Nation, citing the Thai army, writes that the parties have suspended military operations on the border due to heavy rains. They are maintaining their positions as tensions remain high.
