The enemy strikes at the light: what is known about the consequences of the attack on an energy facility in the Odesa region

12 February 13:52

On the night of February 12, Russia launched another massive attack on the energy infrastructure of the Odesa region. Another DTEK energy facility was hit — this is already the 31st large substation damaged by the enemy in the region since the start of the full-scale war. This was reported by DTEK, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The damage is extensive, and repairs will take a long time

According to the company, the damage to the facility is significant. Energy workers are currently working at the site of the attack, clearing debris and assessing the damage.

DTEK noted that the restoration of equipment will take a long time, as it involves complex high-voltage infrastructure.

“We will do everything possible to eliminate the consequences of the attack as quickly as possible. The primary task is to restore power supply to critical infrastructure facilities,” the company emphasized.

Civilian infrastructure damaged

According to Oleg Kipper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, the enemy attacked the region with strike drones.

Damage to civilian and energy infrastructure has been reported in the Odesa region.

As a result of the attack:

  • the facade and roof of an apartment building were destroyed;
  • fires broke out in the market and supermarket;
  • windows in nearby buildings were broken;
  • 15 private cars were burned.

One casualty has been reported so far. He is receiving medical assistance.

Consequences for the region’s power grid

Another blow to the energy infrastructure of the Odesa region complicates the situation with electricity supply in the region, especially in winter conditions and with increased load on the grid.

Energy workers are working around the clock to minimize the impact of the shelling and stabilize the power grid.

At the same time, the scale of the damage indicates that these are systematic attacks on critical infrastructure.
