For the first time since independence: Ukraine wins a medal in the Luge World Cup relay

The Ukrainian luge team has won a medal at the World Cup. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Telegram channel of the National Olympic Committee.
Luge competitions as part of the next stage of the World Cup took place on January 4-5 in Sigulda, Latvia.
The Ukrainian team of Yulianna Tunitska, Ihor Hoy, Nazariy Kachmar, Andriy Mandziy, Olena Stetskiv and Oleksandra Mokh finished third in the mixed relay, behind only the German and Austrian teams, which took first and second place, respectively. “The Blue and Yellows were ahead of the teams from Poland, Latvia, Italy and the United States, which made mistakes and failed to reach the finish line.

The NOC called the medal “historic for Ukrainian sport.” First, it is the first medal in the relay race at the World Cup. Secondly, it is the first award won by Ukrainian sledge hoppers since 2008. Thirdly, this medal is the ninth for the Ukrainian national team in the history of performances at the World Cup.
