Explosion at Ukrposhta: new details and photos emerge

The parcel that exploded on Thursday evening at Ukrposhta in Kyiv was supposed to be sent abroad. At the time of the explosion, it was being checked by customs officers. This was reported by the State Customs Service of Ukraine on Facebook, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

What happened

During the standard customs control of postal items for export, one of the packages exploded. According to preliminary data, it contained an unknown explosive object.

The incident occurred on the territory of Kyiv Customs, where employees check parcels before they are sent abroad.

Who was injured

Five people were injured in the explosion – two customs officers and three Ukrposhta employees.

All of them were promptly provided with medical care and are not in danger of death.

Rescuers, police and explosive experts were working at the scene. The work of emergency services has been completed.

How customs is responding

Due to the incident, the clearance of export parcels at this customs post has been temporarily suspended.
At the same time, imports are being processed as usual.

The State Customs Service assures that the work of the post will be resumed as soon as possible after assessing the security situation.

What we know about the sender

The sender of the parcel and another parcel were quickly identified through the State Customs Service’s information system.

“All shipments from this sender have been detected and their customs clearance has been suspended,” the customs service added.

What’s next

The postal hub is expected to resume operations after the investigation is completed.
