Those who risk losing a high position or being imprisoned most often try to distort the results of a polygraph. Volodymyr Vedmid, the head of the National Association of Polygraph Examiners of Ukraine, said this in an interview with the "Komersant Ukrainian" YouTube channel.
“Ingenuity is born of need, a motive. When you have a high position at stake, the opportunity to get significant privileges in your job, or a motive to avoid responsibility for theft or murder, you will eat the ground to pass a polygraph. The stakes are quite high.
For example, a murderer’s stake is to be prosecuted. He clearly understands that if he is caught, he will go to prison for seven years. This is called a negative forecast,” he said.
According to the expert, the polygraph does not detect lies directly. The device only records a person’s excitement when answering a question. And the stronger the anxiety, the more likely it is that the person is telling a lie.
