Trump’s speech to Congress: what will he talk about and whether he will touch on the war in Ukraine
4 March 19:01
President Donald Trump is scheduled to address Congress on March 4, 2025, with a speech titled “Reviving the American Dream.” What will the American leader talk about, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing CNN.
The media outlet, citing White House officials, says that Donald Trump’s speech will focus primarily on his domestic agenda and outline his main policy proposals for the future.
“His (Donald Trump’s – ed.) speech to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night will serve as a continuation and explanation of his 43 days in office. He will also face his largest audience yet to make demands on Republicans,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The official added that while the presidential speech team has worked on many drafts, Trump himself has spent little time on the address, except for a few points that should resonate with audiences on television and on the House floor.
In addition, one Trump adviser said that the goal of the president’s speech will be to relate his rapid actions to ordinary Americans who may not yet understand the motives behind them. Trump is also likely to refer to his plan to reduce prices, although the specific outlines of his speech were still being developed on Monday.
Donald Trump himself characterized his speech to Congress on March 4 as follows:
“Tomorrow night is going to be big. I’ll tell it like it is,” he wrote on Truth Social.
What topics will Donald Trump address in his speech to Congress?
The US President will deliver a speech at 21:00 local time in the Capitol building (4:00 on March 5, Kyiv time – ed.). Fox News reports that the American leader will talk about:
- his achievements in the US and internationally;
- the administration’s actions to strengthen the economy;
- allocation of additional funds for border security;
- plans to establish global peace.
Will the American president talk about Ukraine?
CNN, citing sources in the US presidential administration, writes that Trump’s speech will largely focus on his domestic agenda, a CNN official said, and Trump will preview his major policy proposals for the next four years.
However, one of the most anticipated topics will be how the president will use the global arena to resolve wars abroad, particularly between Russia and Ukraine, and how tough a stance he will take against Ukraine after the aid suspension.
What political analysts say about Trump’s speech to Congress
Experts say that since taking office for the second time, Trump has “upended” the geopolitical order and shaken the US alliances by trying to negotiate a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
The American leader’s speech will also reflect the new reality he faces as president.
“He needs to tackle some of the fiercest challenges facing any new president and fulfill his campaign promises to lower prices,” experts say.
