6 January 09:25

Today, January 6, Ukraine celebrates Epiphany. However, swimming in ice water is dangerous. The State Emergency Service reminds of this, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“According to a long tradition, Ukrainians will dive into ice-holes, honoring the holiday and tempering their spirits. However, swimming in ice water is dangerous,” the report says.

Safety rules for swimming:

  • Swim only when you are physically fit
  • Choose only officially designated water bodies
  • Move around before and after the dive
  • Do not wet your head and enter the water smoothly
  • Dry yourself with a towel and put on dry clothes after leaving
  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages.

“We advise you to refrain from attending mass events and strictly comply with the requirements and restrictions established during martial law,” the SES added.

As a reminder, Kyiv has named the prepared locations for bathing on Epiphany.
