Like Yanukovych: Hungary’s scandal over Orban’s elite estate (video)

A loud political scandal erupted in Hungary after the publication of photos from the Hatvanpust estate, which, according to independent MP Akos Hadhazy, belongs to the family of Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Officially, the authorities insist that it is the “farm of the prime minister’s father,” but the published photos show a completely different picture – a private oasis with exotic animals, underground tunnels and infrastructure of a five-star resort. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Telex and Hungarian MP Akos Hadhazy.

Photos that stirred up the country

Independent MP Akos Hadhazy released photos of an unfinished complex in Hatvanpust, which he claims belongs to the family of Prime Minister Orban. The photos show a palm garden, a private zoo, underground corridors and other elements of the luxury residence.

The photos, taken several years ago by a former construction worker, show underground corridors, heated pavement, and areas where zebras, antelopes, and buffaloes are kept.

According to Khadghazi, the author of the photos quit his job “because he was sick of the luxury disguised as agriculture.”

The MP claims that control at the facility has now been tightened, with workers having their phones taken away and being intimidated to avoid information leaks.

“Well, if it’s a farm, it’s a very strange farm,” he ironically says.

The drone footage of what Orban’s “farm” looks like was published by the local edition of The Telex.

Previously, there was a modern farm on the territory, but now there is nothing to remind us of agricultural activity. The stables have been replaced by multi-story buildings with elevators, and an underground parking lot and swimming pool have appeared on the territory of the mansion.

“Excursion” behind the fence

To draw attention to the story, Khadghazi organized a public visit to Khatvanpara. Hundreds of people used ladders to look behind the high fence, comparing the atmosphere to the events in Ukraine after Viktor Yanukovych’s escape.

The journalists recorded that even the enhanced security measures did not hide the exotic animals from the visitors’ eyes.

Questions to the official version

Khadghazi’s investigation revealed that one of the buildings on the territory had an energy certificate issued for it as a residential facility, which contradicts the version of the “farm”.

In addition, some historical buildings were allegedly destroyed during construction.

Political consequences

The leader of the opposition Tysa party, Peter Magyar, said that if he wins the election, he will initiate a large-scale investigation into the assets of officials and their relatives over the past 20 years, including the estate in Hatvangly.

“We will check everyone, from former to current officials,” he emphasized.

The Hatvánpúszta scandal continues, as the Hungarian opposition and independent media believe that such estates symbolize the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of the prime minister’s inner circle.
