EU imposes sanctions on Medvedchuk, Marczewski and Voice of Europe

The European Union has imposed sanctions against former MP, Putin’s godfather and traitor to Ukraine Viktor Medvedchuk, as well as pro-Russian businessman Artem Marchevsky. This was reported by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Twitter, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The ministry noted that at the suggestion of the Czech Republic, the European Union decided to add three organisations working for the Kremlin to the sanctions list.
“Czech diplomacy has succeeded in getting three organisations working for Russia added to the EU sanctions list,” the statement said,
– the statement said.
The sanctions list also includes the Voice of Europe, a propaganda outlet used by Russia, in particular, to influence the European Parliament elections.
In addition to Medvedchuk, pro-Russian propagandist and former general producer of the 112 Ukraine TV channel Artem Marchevsky was also sanctioned.
For Medvedchuk and Marchevsky, the sanctions also mean a ban on entry and transit through all EU member states.
At the same time, all funds and economic resources of Medvedchuk, Marchevsky and the media platform will be frozen throughout the EU.
It should be noted that in May, Slovakia granted temporary protection to Marchevsky after the Czech authorities imposed sanctions against him. In particular, the country blocked his assets and money in his bank accounts.
In the Czech Republic, Marchevsky is suspected of being the head of a pro-Russian influence network that financed the Voice of Europe website, along with Medvedchuk. The Czech authorities claim that the website was used to spread anti-Ukrainian propaganda and disinformation on the instructions of Medvedchuk, against whom the Czech Republic has also imposed sanctions.
Medvedchuk’s arrest
On 12 April 2022, Medvedchuk himself was arrested as a result of a special SBU operation. He is a defendant in several criminal cases of treason and economic crimes.
on 21 September, Viktor Medvedchuk was exchanged for Ukrainian soldiers held by Russia. As a result, 215 Ukrainian defenders were returned from captivity.
