Eurovision Song Contest 2025: organizers change the rules of the contest

12 December 2024 06:17

The European Broadcasting Union has amended the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest, which will be applied in 2025 in Basel. This was reported on the website of the European Broadcasting Union, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

For the first time in the existence of the main musical event of the Old World, all accredited participants will be required to comply with a code of conduct that provides for the creation of an atmosphere of respect and support for artists. A designated “welfare producer” will monitor compliance with these principles.

The performers will be given the opportunity to stay in a special room without cameras and press, and the number of rehearsals behind closed doors will increase. The contest schedule will also be arranged in such a way that the artists have more free time “to explore the sights and beauty of the host city.”

All these measures are aimed at preventing the situation that arose at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö: when Dutchman Just Klein had a conflict with a woman from the broadcast team due to excessive attention, which led to the singer’s disqualification before the final. Later, the charges against Klein for aggressive behavior were found to be unfounded.

Ukraine will take part in Eurovision 2025. The organizers of the Ukrainian National Selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 received 369 applications from artists who want to participate in the contest.

During this time, 374 songs were submitted by 304 artists – some of them submitted several songs.

In total, 232 solo artists and 72 bands submitted their songs to the competition. The applications came not only from Ukraine but also from abroad – from Sweden, Germany, Poland, the USA, France, Spain, and the UK.

Based on the results of the preliminary selection, the organizers will form a long list of participants who will continue to compete in the National Selection. It will include up to 20 performers who will have to pass a personal audition.

By December 20, up to 9 performers will be selected to be shortlisted for the National Selection. One more participant will be selected from among the longlist participants who will not be included in this list through online voting. The full list of finalists will be published by January 17, 2025.

The final of the National Selection will take place in February 2025. The winner will be announced based on the results of the jury and audience voting. He or she will represent Ukraine at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest to be held in the Swiss city of Basel in May 2025.
