Europe Needs Security Guarantees from Ukraine: Estonian Foreign Minister

2 April 15:09

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that Ukraine, thanks to its military experience, could become a guarantor of security for all of Europe, and that its integration into the EU and NATO is critically important. He wrote about this on his X account, according to  "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the minister, a “historic moment” has now arrived for Ukraine’s integration into the EU and NATO, as this will guarantee security not only for Ukraine itself but also for the entire European region.

“NATO is not only saying that we must provide security guarantees to Ukraine, but also that our region needs security guarantees from Ukraine, since Ukraine is now the largest, most effective, and most experienced military force in our region,” Tsakhkna emphasized.

He also stressed that the decision to leave Ukraine in a “gray zone” only creates opportunities for further Russian aggression.

“That is why we must consider this comprehensively, because these ‘gray zones,’ neutral countries, or buffer zones—whatever we call them—are simply a green light for Putin to continue his aggression against Europe,” Tsakhna noted.

The minister added that Ukraine today is not only defending its own independence but also buying time for Europe to establish a new security architecture.
