Starting April 11, TruCAM will record speeds at 25 new sites: where they were installed

Starting April 11, 2025, the Patrol Police of Ukraine will start using TruCAM devices on 25 new sections of roads and streets in settlements. The total number of control points will increase to 338 sites, and TruCAM will operate on 160 devices across the country. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Patrol Police.

What is TruCAM and how does it work?

TruCAM is a modern laser device for measuring vehicle speed used by the Patrol Police of Ukraine. It allows you to accurately record the speed of cars at a distance, as well as record closed photo and video evidence. TruCAM is used mainly in areas where the existing automatic speed cameras are damaged. The combination of these methods provides greater efficiency in speed enforcement, but drivers know that their actions are being monitored in several ways.

Using TruCAM has several key features:

Accuracy of measurement: the device records speeds with an error of only ±2 km/h.
Transparency: the places of use are marked with special road signs that provide for photo and video recording.
Visibility of patrols: service vehicles with blue flashing lights are placed in visible places so that drivers can adjust their behavior in advance.

Where TruCAMs operate: how new areas are identified

TruCAMs are mobile speed measuring devices that are used by patrol officers in areas with high accident rates. New locations are selected based on accident statistics, particularly in areas where speeding is the main cause of accidents.

In addition, TruCAMs are often used in the same areas where automatic violation cameras are already installed. This provides comprehensive control and increases the effectiveness of speed enforcement.

Changes in the use of TruCAM during the war

Due to the martial law, the police do not use TruCAM devices in the regions where active hostilities are ongoing, in particular, in Donetsk and Luhansk.

At the same time, in Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions, TruCAMs are used only in certain safe areas.

Taking into account the current situation:

25 new speed cameras were added;
10 existing ones have been updated – location or control parameters have been changed.

How do I know if TruCAM is working here?

All areas where TruCAM is used are marked with warning road signs.

There is also always a patrol police car with blue flashing lights on, which is always present in the area of direct visibility.
