Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine talked to Chinese prisoners who fought on the side of Russia against Ukraine. The corresponding video was released by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“We are finding out all the facts about the presence of these and other Chinese citizens in the Russian occupation army. Ukrainian intelligence is also working,” the head of state said.

Zelenskyy added that Ukraine has accurate data on more than 150 Chinese citizens involved in the war by Russia.

“We know that there are actually more of them. Ukraine believes that such even undisguised involvement of Chinese citizens in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine in the war of aggression is a deliberate step to expand the war,” the president wrote.

He called it another indication that Moscow simply needs to drag out the fighting.

The published footage shows documents of captured Chinese. A man who called himself Chang Renbo claims to have been captured during his first combat mission. According to him, he had never held a weapon before.

Another prisoner, Wang Guangjun, said he surrendered with two other captors. According to him, the Ukrainian military saved their lives because the Russians dropped explosives with gases. The Chinese man said he was breathing in the gas and thought he was going to die, but a Ukrainian soldier pulled him out of hiding.

Meanwhile, the SBU reported that the Chinese prisoners are now testifying about how they ended up in the war in Ukraine and what tasks they performed as part of the Russian Armed Forces.

The SBU clarified that one prisoner was captured by soldiers of the 157th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Tarasivka, and the other by soldiers of the 81st separate airmobile brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Bilohorivka.

The prisoners were taken to Kyiv for investigation. They are being held in proper conditions that meet the requirements of international law.

One of the prisoners, an unemployed man born in 1991, was recruited by a representative of the Russian Federation directly in China. In February 2025, he arrived in Moscow and signed a contract.

The other, born in 1998, arrived in Russia in December 2024, ostensibly for tourist purposes. According to him, during his stay in Russia, he applied for a contract by responding to an online advertisement for recruitment and payment of 2 million rubles.

The SBU is currently checking the testimony of the prisoners and conducting the necessary investigative measures.
