Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has destroyed more than half of Ukraine’s electricity production. Generation has fallen from 55 GW to 20 GW, reports "Komersant Ukrainian" citing the Financial Times.

“Before Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine’s domestic electricity production was around 55 GW of electricity, one of the largest in Europe. Now, this production capacity has fallen below 20 GW due to shelling and the Russian occupation, which has put power plants out of commission,”

– the statement said.

On 6 May, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said that Russia had destroyed 8 GW of generation in Ukraine, while the day before, the European Union’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Mathernova, said that Russia had destroyed 9.2 GW of generation.

The Russians stepped up their attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure this spring. As a result, Centrenergo lost 100% of its generation, while DTEK’s capacity was damaged by 80%. After the largest-scale Russian attack on the Ukrainian energy sector, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to raise tariffs. From 1 June, Ukrainians will pay 60% more for electricity.

Ukrenergo calls on Ukrainians to save electricity during peak times.
