In the three years since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has carried out more than 30 massive attacks on energy infrastructure facilities.

This was announced by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the minister, the total damage from these attacks is estimated at billions of dollars.

Galushchenko noted that Russia is using energy as a weapon, trying to leave Ukraine without electricity and heat. Each massive attack involves 100-300 munitions simultaneously hitting power plants, substations, power lines and gas infrastructure.

In addition, Russia carries out daily targeted strikes on energy facilities, and also creates the threat of a nuclear disaster by attacking critical facilities near nuclear power plants.

Today, Russia controls 18 GW of electricity, including hydro and thermal power plants, as well as the largest nuclear power plant in Europe – Zaporizhzhya NPP.

The energy minister also said that a few hours before the full-scale invasion began, Ukraine had disconnected from the power systems of Russia and Belarus. It was planned that the isolation regime would last for three days, but the country did not return to the enemy’s power grid.

Under such conditions, the Ukrainian power system withstood 21 days of autonomous operation and joined the European ENTSO-E on March 16, 2022.
