In Catalonia, law enforcement officials are investigating the murder of one of Spain’s richest men, Isac Andic. The founder of the Mango clothing design and sales company died in December 2024 when he fell from a 150-meter slope. Initially, it was classified as an accident, but in March, an investigative court in Catalonia announced a decision to reopen the investigation due to inconsistencies in the testimony of the suspect’s son, Jonathan.
Police sources told Cadena SER radio station that the tycoon’s son is now considered a murder suspect. He was the only one who was with his father when he fell down the mountain. However, the police have no direct evidence yet, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
How the founder of Mango died
on December 14 last year, Isaac and Jonathan Andick went hiking on Mount Montserrat, located 50 km from Barcelona. They were on a route of low difficulty.
On the way down to the parking lot, Andic probably slipped and fell down a 150-meter slope. According to his son, he only heard a noise but did not see anything because he was walking ahead.
The 71-year-old founder of Mango had extensive experience in hiking, and the section of the trail where he fell was not classified as a high-risk area. After Andik’s death, experts once again assessed whether there was a risk to hikers on this trail and concluded that no fences were needed, La Vanguardia reports.
Isak Andik did not hand over control of Mango to his son
Estefania Knuth, a friend of the deceased businessman, a golfer, said that Isak and Jonathan Andik had a tense relationship, a statement confirmed by several other witnesses.
Tensions between the father and son increased a few days before the elder Andik’s death. The founder of Mango was speaking to the company’s staff at a Christmas party. There he announced that he was handing over control of the company to the CEO, not his son. The billionaire also thanked the employees for contributing to Mango’s development, but never mentioned his son, whom he had named as his successor back in 2012.
in 2014, Isak Andik appointed his son as CEO. But after the company suffered losses for two years in a row from 2016 to 2018, Andik Sr. removed him. Tony Ruiz, then CFO, became the new CEO.
Representatives of Andick’s family told El Pais that the family has not and will not comment on the billionaire’s death.
Investigators intend to seize Jonathan Andick’s cell phone to thoroughly analyze its contents, La Vanguardia writes.
