During a 30-minute conversation with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Donald Trump said he wanted to end the war with Russia as soon as possible.

This was reported by Axios, citing a Ukrainian official and two other sources, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The publication’s interlocutors described the conversation as “very friendly and positive.” Trump said that the conflict “has been going on for too long” and added that he would like to end it within a month.

“Zelensky then said he hoped the war would end this year, and Trump replied that the war had gone on too long and said he would like to see it end within a month,” one of the publication’s sources said.

The conversation was the first between the leaders since their meeting in Davos at the end of January and took place one day after the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion. According to Axios’ interlocutors, the conversation was “very friendly and positive.”

The idea of a trilateral summit involving Trump, Zelensky, and Putin was discussed separately. According to sources, Trump is ready to work on organizing it if the meeting between the US, Russian, and Ukrainian delegations scheduled for early March leads to more progress.

According to a Ukrainian source, Trump also confirmed his willingness to provide Ukraine with significant US security guarantees as part of a possible peace agreement.

The conversation took place the day before talks in Geneva, where Trump’s special representatives Kushner and Witkoff are to meet with the Ukrainian delegation.

According to sources, separate contacts between US representatives and Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev are also possible in Geneva.
