President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed Decree No. 384/2025, which appoints Major General Mykhailo Drapaty as Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Mykhailo Drapaty, said that he had a conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during which he reported everything that is currently known about the tragedy at the training ground.
“I had a long conversation with the President. I reported everything that is currently known about the tragedy at the landfill. Every step – who was there, who was responsible for the people, who had to act,” Drapaty wrote.
He reported to Zelenskyy on the reasons for his decision to resign as commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As a reminder, Drapaty resigned after the Russian strike on the 239th training ground.
“The President heard me, supported me and offered to focus on the main thing – the war, the frontline, and victory. I am grateful to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief for his trust, for a common understanding of responsibility and vision of the changes our army needs,” the general wrote.
He stated that it is now necessary to change the culture within the army. He also said that the culture of commanders’ attitude to their soldiers, the fulfillment of their duties, and the value of every life of a Ukrainian soldier should be changed.
“I received a task from the president. I am staying in the ranks. At the front line. Where I have to be. Where I can do the most,” Drapaty emphasized.
Attack on a training unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
On June 1, the Russian military attacked the location of a training unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As of 12:50 a.m., there are 12 dead and more than 60 wounded.
A commission has been set up in the Land Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to investigate all the circumstances and causes of the loss of personnel and an internal investigation has been ordered.
Consequences of the tragedy
The Major General reminded that 12 people were killed as a result of the Russian strike.
“There are wounded. These are young guys from the training battalion. Most of them were in shelters. They were supposed to study, live, fight – not die. My deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to all those who suffered,” he said.
At the same time, Drapaty said that he had initiated an investigation into all the circumstances of the tragedy: the actions of commanders, the condition of shelters, and the effectiveness of warning systems. All victims are being provided with assistance.

There are two criminal investigations into this tragedy, but so far, no one has been charged.
