Ukraine national team: dossier

Ukraine’s national men’s futsal team played its first official match on June 5, 1994, against Belarus, winning 2-1. The highest achievements of the Ukrainian national team are the bronze medal at the 2024 World Cup, as well as silver medals at the 2001 and 2003 European Championships. As of April 2025, the team is ranked 9th in the FIFA world rankings.

The team’s history began in 1993, when Ukraine was represented at the St. Petersburg Autumn tournament by a team composed of players from SKIF-Slid, Nike, Nadezhda, and Rita. Although these games are not included in the official statistics, they were the impetus for the creation of the national team. Valerii Shabelnykov became the first head coach, and later Hennadii Lysenchuk (1994-2012) was the team’s long-term mentor, under whose leadership Ukraine played 216 matches.

The top scorer in the history of the national team is Serhiy Koridze (62 goals), who also twice became the top scorer at European Championships. The team’s biggest victory was over Armenia (20:1 in 2000), and the most painful defeat was against Brazil (0:16 in 1998). As of February 2025, the national team has played 348 official matches and won 202. The team is currently coached by Oleksandr Kosenko.
