Zelensky announced a new meeting between delegations from Ukraine, the US, and Russia: what is known
26 January 22:52
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that another meeting between the negotiating teams of Ukraine, the US, and Russia is being prepared this week; it is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, February 1. He said this in an evening address on January 26, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Zelensky noted that today he heard a detailed report from the Ukrainian delegation after the trilateral meetings in the UAE.
“After a long time, there was again a format with the Americans and Russians. We managed to discuss various issues of a more military nature — those related to steps to end the war and real control and monitoring. There are issues that need to be prepared for the next meeting. We previously discussed that the teams would meet again on Sunday. It would be good if we could speed up this meeting,” the president said.
He promised that Ukraine would be “as prepared as possible on all issues that need to be discussed and agreed upon.”
“Ukraine has always been and will always be on the side of peace, and the only one responsible for the continuation of this war is Russia. We need real results from diplomacy. We don’t want to give the impression that the Russians are using the negotiation process for very cynical, harsh purposes — to delay new measures of pressure on Russia that could work. And pressure is needed… Our partners must not forget this,” the president emphasized.
Negotiations in Abu Dhabi
We will remind you that on January 23 and 24, two-day negotiations between delegations from Ukraine, the US, and Russia on ending the war took place in Abu Dhabi.
According to a media source, the first round was introductory, and on Saturday the parties met in an expanded format, after which they decided to split into two subgroups: one political and the other military.
According to the media source, significant progress was made in discussing military issues. At the same time, no decision has yet been made regarding the territories.
“However, the parties managed to make progress in the military subgroup. They discussed whether it was necessary to withdraw forces, how the cessation of hostilities and the ceasefire would be monitored, the creation of a center for control and coordination of ceasefire issues, and which countries could be represented there,” the source said.
The military subgroup agreed to prepare proposals from the parties on the further ceasefire within a week, before the next meeting.
According to Axios, the next round of trilateral talks involving the US, Ukraine, and Russia is scheduled for February 1. The meeting will again take place in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
