Zelensky: The end date of the war will be determined by real security guarantees

Specific security guarantees for Ukraine could create conditions for setting a clear date for ending the war, which is not only taking place on Ukrainian territory but also poses a threat to the whole of Europe.
According to "Komersant Ukrainian", this was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to Lithuania.
According to him, bilateral security guarantees with the United States of America are key for Ukraine. The relevant document is already ready, and Ukraine is waiting for its partners to give it the appropriate status for signing.
“The document is 100% ready, and we are waiting for our partners to agree on the date and place when we will sign it. Then the document will be sent for ratification to the United States Congress and the Ukrainian parliament, in accordance with our agreements,” Zelensky said.
The president named European guarantees, particularly within the Coalition of the Willing, as well as Ukraine’s future membership in the European Union, as the second element of security guarantees.
Separately, Zelensky emphasized the importance of economic security guarantees and clear terms for European integration. According to him, Ukraine will be technically ready to open all negotiation clusters with the EU in the first half of 2026, and fully ready in 2027.
The president stressed that Ukraine seeks to set a specific date in the agreement on ending the war so that all parties, including the aggressor, are obliged to comply with the agreements and so that the process is not blocked in the future.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
In early January, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a bilateral document on security guarantees for Ukraine from the US was essentially ready, and the next step would be to finalize it at the highest level.
On January 13, the head of state said that Ukraine continues to work with the US on security guarantees and recovery, noting the possibility of signing relevant agreements in the near future. According to him, this also involves further legal approval of the documents in the US Congress and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
In addition, Zelensky said that he plans to receive an answer regarding the terms of the security guarantees directly during a meeting with US President Donald Trump.
