In an interview with Czech radio station Prague International, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he is prepared to discuss territorial issues exclusively with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
According to him, such issues cannot be resolved solely by “technical teams.”
“Territorial issues can only be considered in direct dialogue with Putin,” Zelensky emphasized.
“At the very least, we must be able to maintain contact with the Russian Federation, with the Russian leader, in one format or another. Without such a format, in my opinion, from what I see, our teams will not be able to agree on territorial issues,” Zelensky added.
Peace talks and a possible meeting with Putin
Last weekend, talks between Ukraine, the US, and Russia took place for the first time in the UAE. The Americans assessed the meeting positively, and in Kyiv, it was called meaningful.
On the eve of these talks, Zelensky said that the territorial issue, primarily regarding Donbas, would be key at the meeting.
After the talks, sources at Axios were so pleased with the outcome that they suggested that a meeting between Zelensky and Putin could take place in the near future.
On Thursday, January 29, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was only considering Moscow as a venue for a meeting with Zelensky. The Ukrainian leader himself categorically rejected the possibility of a meeting in Moscow, but at the same time publicly invited Putin to Kyiv.
