Zelenskyy talks to Trump after US special envoy’s visit to Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump after US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff’s visit to Moscow.

The head of the Ukrainian state announced this on social media, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to him, the conversation was also attended by some European leaders. The main topic was the discussion of the statements made during Vitkoff’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“The common position of Ukraine and its partners is absolutely clear: the war must end. Ukraine will definitely defend its independence. We all need a lasting and reliable peace. russia must end the war it started,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

On the same day, Donald Trump said on Truth Social that he considered his representative’s meeting with Putin “very productive.”

“My special envoy Steve Vitkoff just had a very productive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. A lot of progress was made! Afterward, I briefed some of our European allies,” the American leader wrote.

He added that all sides agree on the need to end the war and said he would work on this “in the coming days and weeks.”

The meeting between Steve Witkoff and Vladimir Putin took place on August 6 in Moscow and lasted about three hours. According to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, the parties exchanged “signals” on the situation in Ukraine, and the conversation was “useful and constructive.”
