Zelensky says when the Rada can set the date of elections

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that elections in Ukraine can be held after the war is over and martial law is lifted. He said this during an interview on the air of the United News telethon, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Zelenskyy noted that the Constitution and laws of Ukraine do not allow for presidential and parliamentary elections during martial law.

“This is all spelled out. Both the president and the parliament are legitimate authorities until a new president or a new parliament emerges,” Zelensky said.

He emphasized that any elections are possible only after the end of the war or legislative changes. Zelensky suggested that this could happen in 2025 if Ukraine manages to end the hot phase of the war in a strong position:

“If in 2025 we can get the end of the hot phase of the war in a strong position for Ukraine… We will have a strong army, a strong weapons package, security guarantees, then the elections will take place,” the president said.

He added that if martial law is lifted, the parliament can set the date of the elections.

“When martial law ends, there will be no need to wait for years before the elections,” Zelenskyy summarized.
