Zelensky criticizes protection of Kyiv CHP plants after new Russian attack

During a briefing, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was dissatisfied with the protection of energy facilities that were under the responsibility of local authorities. He called Russia’s October 10 attack a “strong but not fatal” blow, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

The head of state was asked why in some cases transformers were covered only with sandbags.

In response, Zelensky reminded that there are facilities “the size of a village. And it is impossible to build any structures necessary for air defense systems there.

“There are questions to many. There is the first, second, and third level of protection. But I’m not satisfied, for example, if we take Kyiv… There are CHP-5 and CHP-6. It’s not just about air defense. We cannot use Patriot missiles against a drone. What questions can I have for the mayor and Kyiv’s utilities? I could tell you now what I think about all this, but I will not, because the war is the same for everyone,” the president said.

He clarified that he does not want to make “anti-compliments” to those who are generally incapable of doing anything.

“We will do everything. And where local authorities and the private sector are not capable, we must protect all this,” Zelensky added.

Earlier, MP Oleksiy Kucherenko said that transformers at one of the thermal power plants in Kyiv, which was the target of a Russian attack on the night of October 10, were not protected.

He noted that the Kyiv City State Administration and Kyiv City Council were responsible for this.
