25 February 12:26

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that on Thursday, February 26, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov will meet with US Special Envoys Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner to prepare, in particular, for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the US, and Russia in early March.

“I will quickly say what I think is relevant. I just spoke with Rustem Umerov, who will meet tomorrow with American negotiators, Witkoff and Kushner, and Umerov will also meet with the Minister of Economy. It will be a bilateral meeting with the American side,” the president told reporters, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

In addition, Zelensky emphasized that Umerov has been tasked with discussing the details of the exchange.

NSDC spokeswoman Diana Davitian told reporters that Umerov’s meeting with American negotiators will take place in Geneva.

What preceded it

On Tuesday, February 24, Vitkoff said that he and Kushner would visit Geneva, where they would meet with Umerov. According to the special representative of US President Donald Trump, the purpose of this meeting is to continue the dialogue and explore various options for reaching a peace agreement.

In addition, Vitkoff said that after that, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine may visit Florida.

Negotiations between Ukraine, the US, and Russia

On February 21, Zelensky held talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. During the conversation, the president told him about preparations for the fourth round of negotiations, as well as possible changes in the positions of the parties.

Zelensky also told Rutte that the next talks are again planned in Geneva and are expected within the next 10 days.

Prior to that, on February 17-18, the third round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US, and Russia took place in Geneva, Switzerland.

According to Axios, the political part of the negotiations reached an impasse due to the positions voiced by the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky. What exactly he said remains unknown, but the aggressor country continues to demand the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donbas.

At the same time, CNN wrote that the result was achieved by the military group of negotiators. In particular, “significant progress” was made on how the ceasefire will work.

Earlier, the Ukrainian president said that in the event of a ceasefire, the US would be primarily responsible for monitoring it. He also confirmed that no agreement had been reached on the Donbas issue.
