Zelensky reveals reason for Yermak’s resignation: new details
13 February 05:40
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the dismissal of Andriy Yermak from the post of head of the Presidential Office, stating that this decision was not related to the scandalous “Midas case,” which concerns the investigation of corruption in the energy sector. According to the head of state, he had other compelling reasons for the personnel changes. Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about this in an interview with the American publication The Atlantic, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Zelensky denied any connection between Yermak’s resignation and the Midas case
The president categorically rejected the assumption that Andriy Yermak’s dismissal was related to anti-corruption investigations or pressure from international partners.
“I had my reasons,” Volodymyr Zelensky briefly commented on the decision to dismiss the head of the President’s Office.
Thus, the head of state did not confirm the version that the Midas case or searches by law enforcement agencies were the determining factor in the resignation of one of the key officials.
The media speculated about possible pressure and conflicts
The Atlantic journalist Simon Shuster noted that Volodymyr Zelensky had long refused to dismiss Andriy Yermak, despite recommendations and signals from allies.
According to the journalist, Yermak, who was Ukraine’s chief negotiator on the international stage, had tense relations with some Western diplomats and certain representatives of the Ukrainian political elite.
The article also suggests that the president had for years resisted external and internal pressure to make personnel changes in his inner circle.
NABU searches and the Midas case: what is known
On November 28, 2025, detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and prosecutors from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) conducted searches in the office of the then head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak.
On the same day, Yermak submitted his resignation, which was signed by the president.
The searches may have been related to the investigation of the so-called “Midas case,” which concerns possible corruption schemes in the energy sector. As part of this investigation, investigators are examining the activities of a number of former high-ranking officials and businessmen, including Timur Mindich, co-owner of the Kvartal-95 studio.
However, the president stressed that this investigation was not the reason for the personnel decision.
Yermak’s resignation was one of the most high-profile personnel changes
Andriy Yermak headed the Office of the President of Ukraine and was one of the key representatives of the state on the international arena, in particular in negotiations with allies on military and financial support.
His dismissal caused a significant stir both in Ukraine and among international partners, as he played an important role in diplomatic processes during the full-scale war.
Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on this decision, made it clear that the personnel changes were dictated by internal management considerations, rather than anti-corruption investigations or political pressure.
