Zelenskyy intrigued by new meeting with Trump: it may bring the end of the war closer

The meeting of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with US President Donald Trump scheduled for October 17 may become one of the key events in ending the war. The head of state said this in his evening address, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine has already worked out the military and economic aspects of the upcoming talks, and the meeting itself is “very meaningful and strategic.”
“This can really bring the end of the war closer: it is the United States that has the ability to have such global influence, and we are doing everything to ensure that others in the world are on the same side as us in this work,” Zelenskyy intrigued.
Preparing for the meeting in Washington
Currently, a Ukrainian government delegation is in the United States to prepare the ground for future negotiations. The delegation includes Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyslytsia, Ambassador of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna, and other officials.
They have already begun meetings with representatives of the White House, U.S. defense and energy companies, including manufacturers of air defense systems.
“They have already started meetings at their level in Washington, preparing the basis for a conversation with the leader of the United States, as well as with American defense companies, including air defense manufacturers, as well as with representatives of energy companies,” Zelenskyy said.
What Zelenskyy and Trump plan to discuss
According to sources in diplomatic circles, the main topics of the meeting will be long-range weapons, strengthening air defense, sanctions against Russia, and energy security.
Before that, the presidents spoke twice on the phone to discuss the supply of air defense systems and the protection of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
According to the American media, they discussed not only possible new Patriot batteries, but also the potential transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv, which could significantly change the balance of power on the front.
The meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump in Washington is already being called one of the most anticipated events of October, as its results could determine the further dynamics of the war and the US position on military assistance to Ukraine.
