President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the leaders of the E5 countries – Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Poland – and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the NATO summit in The Hague. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Presidential Office.
The parties discussed in detail the importance of strengthening Ukraine’s air shield amid an increase in the number of strikes by Russia against civilians. First of all, they talked about air defense systems and interceptors of the Iranian “Shahed”.
Zelenskyy informed that Russia is intensifying its offensive operations and shows no desire to end the war. That is why it is necessary to increase pressure on Russia, primarily in the energy and banking sectors, against the shadow fleet, and to impose secondary sanctions.
The President emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s being able to count on the Alliance and NATO member states.
“Thank you for the great support of our people, our soldiers, truly heroic people. Air defense, training missions with jets and new assistance packages – thank you,” the Head of State said.
Mark Rutte noted that the summit had given a clear signal: NATO’s commitments to Ukraine remain, as enshrined in the summit declaration.
“You can count on us now and in the future to protect yourself, to be stronger at the negotiating table, to deter aggression in the future and on your irreversible path to NATO,” the Secretary General emphasized.
Mark Rutte reminded that the E5 countries and other partners have already announced substantial support, including air defense systems, tanks, armored personnel carriers, artillery systems, drones and ammunition. In addition, the Alliance has more than 70 projects aimed at building Ukraine’s future forces and security sector, making Ukraine’s path to NATO irreversible.
