“There are no living stations left”: Zelensky declares complete damage to the energy sector and promises quick recovery
15 December 21:55
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the entire Ukrainian energy system has been hit by Russian strikes and that there is virtually no power plant left that has not suffered from Russian attacks.
He said this during a press conference at the German-Ukrainian Economic Forum, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
What the president said
According to Zelensky, the scale of the damage is unprecedented:
“In fact, there is not a single ‘live’ power plant in Ukraine that has not suffered from Russian strikes.”
At the same time, the President emphasized that despite the constant pressure, the power system continues to operate – it is restored after attacks every time, and electricity is returned to Ukrainian homes as soon as possible.
The statement came amid another wave of massive attacks on the energy sector by Russia. As of the morning of December 14, hundreds of thousands of families were left without electricity in seven regions of Ukraine.
The most difficult situation is in the south and east of the country, in particular in Odesa region, which has been hit by combined attacks for several nights in a row.
How Ukraine and partners are responding
Zelensky admitted that it is extremely difficult to resist such systemic pressure, but emphasized that reconstruction work begins immediately after each attack. He also thanked German companies, which, according to him, play a significant role in rebuilding and stabilizing the Ukrainian energy system.
Russian attacks on the energy sector remain one of the key tools of pressure on the civilian population in winter.
