Back on your screens: The Rada resumes broadcasting its meetings
4 September 12:49
Ukrainian MPs have returned to live broadcasts of parliamentary sessions. 266 MPs supported the decision to resume online broadcasting of the Verkhovna Rada’s sessions, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
From now on, open parliamentary sessions will again be broadcast on the Internet through the state-owned Rada Parliamentary TV channel.
In addition, MPs have lifted the ban on covering parliamentary news within an hour of the end of the sessions. This restrictive measure had been in effect since February 24, 2022, when martial law was imposed due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
However, for some reason, the MPs refused to resume broadcasting directly from today’s meeting. The majority decided that it was worthwhile to meet in secret from the people. So, according to MP Zheleznyak, live broadcasts of the Rada will resume in mid-September. Obviously, the next plenary session should take place then.

Live broadcasts from the Rada: a long way to go
Live broadcasts of the Verkhovna Rada sessions were canceled immediately after the full-scale Russian invasion. At the time, this decision was explained by national security considerations. Today, few people are satisfied with this explanation, and discussions about the need to resume broadcasts have been going on for a long time.
In early September of this year, a group of MPs submitted a bill to the parliament to restore online broadcasts of the sessions. The ruling Servant of the People party immediately declared its support for this initiative.
In an explanatory note, the MPs noted that the current security situation had changed, and this made it possible to resume broadcasts without creating additional threats.
