Scale of EWMD in Ukraine revealed: details from MP Honcharenko

In Ukraine, the number of criminal cases of unauthorized abandonment of a military unit has increased almost 5 times over the year and is currently about 300 thousand.

This was stated by MP Oleksiy Honcharenko on Vechir.LIVE. He emphasized that there are no official statistics on how many soldiers actually reach the front after training, reports [Kommersant].

“These people go for training, and then they go to the NWC in huge numbers… What is the number of buskers who reach the front line? We do not know the exact statistics,” the MP said.

According to Honcharenko, the system of mobilization is ineffective, because afterwards the conscripts can be of no use to the army or the country’s economy.

“Once we spent money to conscript them. The second time we spent money to teach them while they ran away. The third time we spent money looking for these people. And then, when they find them, they put them in prison. This is the fourth time we have to spend money,” the MP said.

Earlier [Kommersant] reported earlier that unauthorized leaving of a military unit and desertion entail criminal liability. AWOL is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and desertion – up to 12 years.
