A cyclone from Finland will bring rain to Ukraine: weather forecast for June 18

18 June 02:54

The weather in Ukraine on June 18 will remain unstable. The central regions will be under the influence of an upper-level cyclone that is slowly moving from Finland toward the White Sea. Although the center of the atmospheric vortex is located far from Ukraine, its fronts will still affect weather conditions. This was reported by Vitaliy Postrygan, head of the Cherkasy Regional Hydrometeorological Center, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

This was reported by Vitaliy Postrygan, head of the Cherkasy Regional Hydrometeorological Center.

According to him, cumulonimbus clouds will develop during the day within a cool air mass of Atlantic origin, bringing localized thunderstorms.

Ukraine will remain under the influence of a cyclone

Vitaliy Postrygan explained that on June 18, the central regions of Ukraine will be affected by an upper-level cyclone. The atmospheric vortex is moving from Finland toward the White Sea.

Although the center of the cyclone is located at a considerable distance from Ukraine, its atmospheric fronts will keep the weather unstable.

“On June 18, our region will be under the influence of an upper-level cyclone that is slowly moving from Finland toward the White Sea. Although the center of the vortex is far from our region, its atmospheric fronts will still keep the weather unstable,” the meteorologist said.

Rain and thunderstorms are possible during the day

According to the forecast, the sun will stimulate the development of cumulonimbus clouds during the day. Because of this, light thunderstorms are possible in some areas.

“The sun will stimulate the development of cumulonimbus clouds within a cool air mass of Atlantic origin, which will result in light thunderstorms during the day,” Postrygan explained.

The meteorologist emphasizes that precipitation will not be widespread; however, due to the unstable atmosphere, brief showers and thunderstorms may occur locally.

What will the temperature be like on June 18?

Temperatures will remain moderate for mid-June.

Overnight temperatures are expected to range from 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. During the day, temperatures will rise to 20–25 degrees.

These temperatures are lower than typical hot summer weather but comfortable for most regions. At the same time, due to cloud cover, wind, and local showers, it may feel cooler than it actually is.

Why the weather remains unstable

The unstable weather is caused by a combination of cool Atlantic air and the influence of atmospheric fronts associated with an upper-level cyclone.

When the sun warms the lower layers of the atmosphere during the day, cumulonimbus clouds quickly form within the cool air mass. These clouds can cause brief showers, thunderstorms, and localized gusts of wind.

Such weather is typical for periods when there is no stable high-pressure system over the region, and the air mass remains moist and unstable.

Which regions will be affected by the cyclone

The central regions of Ukraine will be most affected by the upper-level cyclone. It is there that forecasters expect unstable weather with localized thunderstorms.

At the same time, similar conditions may also affect neighboring regions, as atmospheric fronts do not follow clear administrative boundaries.

Residents of central Ukraine should take possible short-term precipitation into account when planning trips, working outdoors, and performing agricultural work.
