No U.S. Components: Britain Is Developing Low-Cost Long-Range Weapons for Ukraine
20 June 21:15
The United Kingdom is developing an affordable long-range weapon that can be deployed in Ukraine and will not rely on American components or data. Bloomberg reported this, citing representatives of the British Ministry of Defense, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
As noted, the Brakestop project, launched in late 2024, is being fast-tracked to provide support to Kyiv.
According to the publication’s sources, MBDA, MGI Engineering, and Rotron Aerospace are developing three weapon systems that they plan to test in the coming months in the UK and Ukraine. The new weapons are expected to reach the front lines within a year.

The new munitions will be less accurate and less lethal than MBDA’s Storm Shadow missiles, but will cost about half as much as the Anglo-French missile, officials note.
In addition, it is noted that the new missiles will contain no American components and will not use American data, ensuring their operational independence. This was a key requirement of the British government, which had expressed concern about excessive dependence on the U.S. defense industry.
The new British systems will carry a warhead weighing at least 225 kilograms and will be capable of striking targets at a range of over 500 kilometers.
The cost of each weapon, excluding the warhead, is expected to be approximately 400,000 pounds sterling (529,320 U.S. dollars).
According to the publication’s sources, all three companies participating in the tender have stated their readiness to produce at least 40 units per month within 3–4 months of receiving the order. They plan to sell their products directly to Ukraine or other European countries if they do not win the contract.
