On the night of June 19–20, Russian troops launched a strike with guided bombs on the Kholodnogorsk district of Kharkiv. One of the bombs struck a residential area. The attack damaged and destroyed houses, cars, and warehouses. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported this on Telegram, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The first reports of explosions in Kharkiv emerged overnight.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that guided aerial bombs had struck the Kholodnohirskyi district. One of the strikes hit a residential area.

Initial reports indicated that a two-story apartment building had been hit and that people were likely trapped under the rubble.

Rescue workers began search and rescue operations to free the residents.

How many people were affected

Information about the consequences of the strike was being clarified throughout the morning.

Initially, city authorities reported five casualties. Later, the number of people who suffered injuries or acute stress reactions increased.

The injured are receiving the necessary medical care.

People were being rescued from the damaged building

After the strike, rescue workers conducted a search operation in the damaged residential building.

Ihor Terekhov reported that people had been rescued from the second floor of the building.

Initial reports also suggested that residents might still be trapped under the rubble. Therefore, rescue workers continued to inspect the structure and clear the debris.

Final details regarding the consequences of the attack may be clarified once emergency rescue operations are completed.

What Was Damaged in Kharkiv

According to the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, civilian infrastructure facilities in the city were damaged as a result of the Russian strike.

These include:

  • residential buildings;
  • private homes;
  • cars;
  • warehouses;
  • outbuildings.

At the sites of the strikes, experts are inspecting buildings and determining whether they are safe for continued habitation.

They are also continuing to assess the damage caused to residents and the city’s infrastructure.

Russia used guided aerial bombs

During the strikes on the Kharkiv region, Russian forces actively used guided aerial bombs.

Over the past 24 hours, 11 guided aerial bombs were recorded in the region, as well as various types of attack drones.

Guided aerial bombs have great destructive power and are used by the Russian army to attack Kharkiv and other settlements in the region.

Due to the city’s proximity to the Russian border, very little time may elapse between the launch of an aerial bomb and its explosion.

The Kholodnohirskyi District was attacked for the second night in a row

On the night of June 19, Russian troops also launched a strike with guided aerial bombs on the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv.

As a result of the attack, dozens of private homes and warehouses were damaged. There were also reports of casualties, including children.

Thus, the Kholodnohirskyi district was struck by guided aerial bombs for the second night in a row.

Repeated attacks complicate the work of utility services and pose an additional danger to residents and rescue workers.

All emergency services are working at the sites of the strikes

Following the attack, the following units were deployed to address the aftermath:

  • State Emergency Service units;
  • emergency medical teams;
  • police officers;
  • utility services;
  • local government officials.

Rescuers are inspecting damaged buildings, dismantling dangerous structures, and checking to see if anyone is trapped under the rubble.

Utility workers are boarding up damaged windows, clearing debris, and assisting residents.

Authorities have urged residents not to ignore air raid alerts

Local authorities are urging residents of Kharkiv and the surrounding region to respond to air raid alerts.

If there is a threat of guided bombs, you must proceed to a shelter as quickly as possible or follow the “two-walls rule” if a safe shelter is not available.

Do not stay near windows, on balconies, or in open areas.

After explosions, residents are also asked not to approach ammunition debris and to report any dangerous objects to emergency responders or the police.
