One of the enemy drones struck the factory grounds directly. Another drone was shot down by Ukrainian air defense forces.

Following the attack, relevant services began inspecting the site, production facilities, and other infrastructure at the plant.

The full extent of the damage has not yet been determined.

Two people were injured

A 40-year-old man sustained injuries and was hospitalized. According to Oleg Grigorov, his life is not in danger.

A 42-year-old woman was diagnosed by doctors with an acute stress reaction. She is receiving the necessary outpatient treatment.

The facility was attacked for the second time this year

The head of the Sumy Regional State Administration noted that this is the second time in 2026 that Russian troops have attacked the premises of the American company Mondelez in the Sumy region.

Russian troops launched a previous strike on the factory in Trostyanets in February. At that time, a missile struck one of the production buildings.

The facility is a civilian site where Ukrainians work to produce food products for domestic and international markets.

What is known about Mondelez in Trostyanets

The Mondelez International plant in Trostyanets is one of the largest manufacturers of confectionery products in Ukraine.

The factory manufactures products under well-known brands, including Oreo and Barni cookies.

The company has been operating in Ukraine since the 1990s and is one of the first major American investment projects in independent Ukraine.

Before the full-scale Russian invasion, the plant employed about 1,500 people.

The OVA called the strike an attack on a civilian business

Oleg Grigorov emphasized that the Russian army is deliberately targeting a civilian enterprise.

The plant does not manufacture military products. Its employees produce food products for consumers in Ukraine and abroad.

Attacks on such enterprises pose a threat to the lives of workers, production capacity, and the region’s economy.

Inspection of the area is ongoing

After the strike, specialists began inspecting the factory premises.

Experts are determining:

  • the points of impact;
  • the nature of the damage;
  • the condition of the production buildings;
  • possible damage to equipment;
  • the amount of damage caused.

The results of the inspection are to be released at a later date.

Russia is attacking foreign-owned enterprises

Russian troops have repeatedly struck Ukrainian enterprises owned by international and American companies.

Such attacks damage civilian industrial facilities, destroy equipment, endanger the lives of workers, and cause losses to foreign investors.

The strikes may also lead to:

  • temporary suspension of production;
  • job losses;
  • disruptions in product supply;
  • increased restoration costs;
  • a decline in the regions’ investment attractiveness.

The Sumy region is regularly under attack

The Sumy region remains one of the regions regularly attacked by Russian troops.

The enemy uses attack drones, guided aerial bombs, missiles, and artillery.

Border communities, residential buildings, businesses, and transportation and energy infrastructure are all coming under attack.

Local authorities are urging residents not to ignore air raid sirens and to take shelter when danger strikes.
