Back on top again: Musk lost the title of the world’s richest man for just one day

Businessman Larry Ellison briefly became the richest man in the world, surpassing Elon Musk after a sharp rise in his Oracle Corp. shares. This added a record amount to his wealth, but did not allow him to gain a foothold at the top, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to Bloomberg, yesterday, September 10, Ellison’s wealth increased by $89 billion after Oracle released quarterly results that exceeded analysts’ expectations and announced plans for further growth.
This growth raised his total capital to $383.2 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which for a while put him ahead of Musk. However, the Tesla CEO quickly regained the lead with a $1 billion advantage.
ellison, 81, who co-founded Oracle and currently serves as chairman and chief technology officer, has the bulk of his wealth in shares of the database software company.
Oracle shares, which were already up 45% year-to-date before Tuesday’s close, soared 36% on Wednesday after the company reported a significant increase in orders and gave an aggressive outlook for its cloud infrastructure business. This is the company’s biggest one-day rise since 1992.
Tesla shares, on the other hand, have fallen 14% since the beginning of the year. The company’s board of directors has offered Musk a large-scale compensation package that, if he achieves a number of ambitious goals, could make him the world’s first trillionaire.
musk, 54, first became the richest man in the world in 2021, then lost the title to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault. He regained the top spot last year and held it for over 300 days.

The recent rise in Oracle’s shares is attributed to the company’s successful partnerships with OpenAI and Nvidia in the field of artificial intelligence, as well as the growing demand for cloud infrastructure. Ellison remains the main shareholder of Oracle and actively manages the company’s strategic development, despite his age.
It’s worth noting that Ellison is also known for his investments in Tesla – he is a member of Musk’s board of directors and one of the largest shareholders, which makes his fight with Musk for the title of the world’s richest man particularly interesting.
