Orban and Zelensky’s meeting: the Hungarian representative made a resonant statement

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who arrived in Kyiv on 2 July, offered Volodymyr Zelenskyy a plan to end the war by ending hostilities. This was reported by [Kommersant] reports media outlet citing a press conference between the President of Ukraine and the head of the Hungarian government.

According to Orban, the war in Ukraine has an intense impact on the security of Europe.

“We very much appreciate all the initiatives taken by President Zelenskyy to achieve peace. These initiatives take a lot of time. It is the rules of international diplomacy that make them difficult, and I asked Mr President to think about whether we could take a slightly different approach. To take a break. Cease fire and then continue, start negotiations,” the Hungarian prime minister said.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he and Viktor Orban had talked about “how to bring a just and lasting peace closer”.

“Today, Mr Prime Minister Viktor Orban and I discussed the most fundamental issues of our neighbourly relations – trade, cross-border cooperation, infrastructure and energy issues. We also talked about the humanitarian sphere – everything that affects the lives of our people both in Ukraine and in Hungary,” the President of Ukraine said.

He added that the content of his dialogue with Orban could become the basis for a new bilateral document between Hungary and Ukraine. A document that will regulate all relations between the two countries and which will be based on a mirror approach to bilateral relations between the states.
