Communication under control: SpaceX has begun cutting Russians off from Starlink

1 February 08:12

At the request of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, SpaceX has begun to take the first countermeasures against the Russians’ use of Starlink terminals to launch drone strikes on our country.

This was announced by Sergei Beskrestnov (call sign “Flash”), advisor to the head of the Ministry of Defense on technological issues, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing his Telegram channel.

“Many users of the Starlink satellite communication system in Ukraine are already seeing the first countermeasures that SpaceX has taken at the request of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense,” the message says.

Flash noted that he cannot publicly disclose everything that has been done, is being done, and will be done in the future. However, he stressed that all these actions are aimed at one goal: to protect Ukrainians (both military and civilian) and infrastructure from the threat of Russian drone strikes.

He also added that the current decisions are temporary or, in other words, “emergency” ones. Later, they will be replaced by a more global and thoughtful solution, which will take some time.

“It is high time to gather all the information in the country about SpaceX service users in the army. I will not hide the fact that such attempts have already been made, but many soldiers who use volunteer Starlink and personal Starlink did not want to submit information to the command. Suddenly the commander will take it away, or the new one will not give it, or something else,” Flash writes.

Serhiy Beskrestnov emphasized that a way will definitely be found to collect information on the army and do so in such a way that the Ukrainian military trusts this information.

In summary, Flash reported that SpaceX is involved in the process and is assisting Ministry of Defense specialists.

On January 23, media reports emerged that Russians are increasingly using Starlink on their drones to bypass Ukrainian air defense systems.

On the same day, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said that a few hours after the discovery of such drones, the ministry contacted SpaceX to resolve the issue.
