Winter 2025: only western Ukraine has a chance to avoid a large-scale blackout

1 October 16:44

If the shelling of the Ukrainian energy system continues, only the western regions will be in the best position this winter. They will have uninterrupted electricity, heat, gas and water supply. Oleg Popenko, chairman of the Union of Consumers of Public Utilities, said this in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".

“The western regions are the most protected because we can import electricity. In the west, the likelihood of a power outage is much lower. Because if the generation goes down, they will be able to import electricity. But it is impossible to bring the imported electricity to Odesa, as the existing line does not allow for this,” said Popenko.

At the same time, the expert believes that there are no ideal options – everything depends on many factors.

If you recall, the Russians also attacked Chernivtsi region – a transformer substation responsible for electricity distribution in the region. As a result, the region was put under a temporary blackout.
