Assets of the aggressor country in Ukraine: what is known about the case concerning the Rosatom building in Podil
22 January 15:17
Law enforcement agencies have referred to court a case involving an organized group accused of fraudulently acquiring a non-residential building in central Kyiv. According to the investigation, the ultimate beneficial owner of the property is a Russian company that manufactures nuclear fuel and is subordinate to the state corporation Rosatom.
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
What is known
According to the investigation, the building, located in Podil, was formally owned by a Russian joint-stock company. At the same time, information about the ownership rights was not entered into the State Register of Real Rights to Real Estate — it was only reflected in the documents of the Kyiv City Bureau of Technical Inventory.
Investigators believe that members of an organized group exploited this loophole to illegally seize the property.

How the scheme worked
The police claim that the defendants deliberately concealed the true owner of the building and used forged documents. As a result, the non-residential premises, with an estimated value of almost UAH 56 million, were removed from the control of the legal owner.
At the same time, the court seized both the building itself and the suspects’ property with a total value of about 3.5 million hryvnia.

Who is involved in the case
Law enforcement officials have not disclosed the names of the accused. It is known that there are three members of the organized group. Their actions are classified, in particular, under articles on fraud on an especially large scale and forgery of documents.
The pre-trial investigation has been completed. The indictment has been sent to the court for consideration of the case on its merits. If proven guilty, the defendants face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
In accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine, the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
