Apple has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit in the U.S. related to its advertising of Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence features. The company will pay a total of $250 million to a group of iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 buyers. This was reported by the BBC, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The lawsuit concerned allegations that Apple allegedly misled buyers regarding the availability and capabilities of new artificial intelligence features, particularly the updated Siri.
Who is eligible for compensation from Apple
Compensation is available to some U.S. buyers who purchased:
- iPhone 15;
- iPhone 16.
This applies to purchases made between June 2024 and March 2025.
The payout amount per user can range from $25 to $95.
The total settlement amount is $250 million.
What is the lawsuit against Apple about?
iPhone buyers claimed that Apple allegedly exaggerated the capabilities of its artificial intelligence features. At the center of the claims is Apple Intelligence, a new set of AI features for Apple devices.
The lawsuit paid particular attention to the Siri voice assistant. According to the lawyers, the company advertised the updated Siri as a significantly more powerful personal AI assistant, but some of the advertised features were not available to buyers at the time the smartphones were sold.
Apple did not admit guilt
As part of the settlement agreement, Apple did not admit to any violations. The company agreed to settle the case to bring the lawsuit to a close and continue working on its products and services.
An Apple spokesperson explained that the lawsuit concerned only two additional features within the broader launch of Apple Intelligence.
“We settled this matter to focus on what we do best—creating the most innovative products and services for our users,” the Apple representative stated.

What the buyers’ lawyers are saying
Lawyers representing a group of iPhone buyers claim that Apple’s marketing regarding AI features was misleading.
“Apple promoted AI capabilities that did not exist at the time, do not exist now, and will not appear for another two or more years, if at all, while advertising them as a breakthrough innovation,” the complaint states.
According to the plaintiffs, Apple used the topic of artificial intelligence as one of the main arguments for promoting new iPhone models, even though some of the features were not available to buyers.
“The iPhone 16 was delivered to consumers without ‘Apple Intelligence,’ and the enhanced Siri never materialized,” the lawyers wrote.
Why Apple Intelligence Found Itself at the Center of a Scandal
Apple Intelligence became one of the company’s key technological bets amid the global race in the field of artificial intelligence. Following the rapid development of OpenAI, Anthropic, and other AI companies, major tech corporations began more actively integrating generative AI into their products.
Apple presented Apple Intelligence as a new level of personalized features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users. However, it was precisely the expectations surrounding these capabilities that led to the legal claims.
Customers claimed that the company sold smartphones emphasizing features that were either not immediately available or did not work as advertised.
