Arrest lifted: will the Ferris wheel on Kontraktova Square start operating
4 March 13:10
The Podilsky District Court of Kyiv has lifted the seizure imposed earlier at the request of the capital’s prosecutor’s office as part of criminal proceedings concerning the emergency condition of the Ferris wheel in Podil. This was reported by heritage conservationist Dmytro Petrov, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
In fact, the wheel can now continue to be used.
At the same time, earlier expert analysis confirmed the dangerous condition of the wheel’s supporting structures, which could threaten people’s lives and health, the author clarifies.
“It is interesting that the seizure was lifted on the initiative of the city authorities, who had previously promised to remove the emergency structure, as the permit for its placement had already expired,” Petrov added.
The position of the Kyiv City State Administration
Kyiv is currently looking for a solution regarding the future operation of the Ferris wheel on Kontraktova Square. And although the court has lifted the seizure of the attraction and the ban on its operation, the legal proceedings in the case are not yet complete, emphasizes Valentin Mondriyevsky , deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration .
According to him, the city authorities held a meeting with the participation of the Podil district leadership and representatives of the relevant departments — public amenities, architecture and urban planning, as well as industry.
“The main task is to develop a legal mechanism to regulate the status of the facility.”

Why the Ferris wheel was previously closed
In early January, the Podil District Court of Kyiv seized the Ferris wheel attraction on Kontraktova Square and prohibited its use. Earlier, on December 26, the prosecutor’s office announced possible safety violations during its operation: during an inspection, it was found that the metal structures installed on wooden beams were in poor condition, creating a risk of accident. Prosecutors went to court to demand that the attraction be shut down.
In addition, suspicions of official negligence were reported to the management of two departments of the Kyiv City State Administration. The Department of Territorial Control stated that the attraction was closed at the request of the prosecutor’s office, the owner is dismantling it on his own, and the city is negotiating a possible new location.
