Bezuhla out of the Rada: the Regulatory Committee launched disciplinary sanctions
20 August 2025 19:46
on August 20, 2025, the Committee on Regulations, Deputy Ethics and Organization of Work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a recommendation to temporarily suspend MP Mariana Bezuhla from participating in the next two plenary sessions of the parliament.
The resolution was initiated by a member of the Voice faction, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
What happened
According to Zhelezniak, the committee supported his initiative on the third attempt. The resolution was passed with the minimum required number of votes – five committee members. The reason for the suspension was “systematic violation of the regulations and anti-social behavior” on the part of Bezuhla.
“For the third time, the Regulatory Committee finally voted for my resolution to remove Mariana Bezuhla from the Verkhovna Rada session. For systematic violation of the rules of procedure and anti-social behavior,” Zheleznyak wrote on Telegram.
The MP herself was not present at the committee meeting where the issue of her removal was considered.
Next steps
The committee’s decision is advisory. The final word is up to the parliament. Tomorrow, on August 21, the Verkhovna Rada is to consider a resolution to temporarily remove Bezuhla from participation in meetings.
Context: statement about Asperger’s syndrome
Recently, Mariana Bezuhla publicly stated that she has Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism that affects emotional response and social interaction. This statement sparked a broad public debate about tolerance, inclusion, and ethical behavior in the political environment.
What it means
Suspension of anMP is a rare but statutory step that is applied in cases of violation of the rules of conduct or rules of the parliament. If the decision is upheld by the Rada, Bezuhla will not be able to participate in the next two plenary sessions, which may affect her political activity and participation in voting.
This case is yet another example of tensions in the Ukrainian parliament, where issues of ethics, rules of procedure, and personal characteristics of MPs are increasingly becoming a subject of public discussion.
