The US State Department has announced the revocation of the visa of Colombian President Gustavo Petro in connection with his alleged calls for violence during a public speech on the streets of New York. The press service of the department wrote about this on the social network X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the State Department, on Friday, September 26, the Colombian leader took to the streets of New York, where he called on American soldiers to disobey orders from the authorities and allegedly incited violence.
“We are revoking Petro’s visa due to his reckless and incendiary actions,” the statement said.
The United States and Colombia are allies, but their relations have cooled since US President Donald Trump came to power. Washington is currently conducting an anti-drug operation in the Caribbean targeting Venezuela, a neighbor of Colombia, which it accuses of running a cartel.
on September 24, Colombia’s president called for criminal proceedings against U.S. officials and the president. He said this during his speech at a general political discussion at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
It was reported that Petro accused Trump of ordering strikes on ships in the Caribbean Sea, where there were “young people who just wanted to escape from poverty.”
