The recent fluctuations in the currency market are causing increasing concern among Ukrainians. After the relative stability of the hryvnia in recent days, the dollar has started to rise slowly but surely. Financial experts predict that this is just the beginning of a gradual rise, and the exchange rate could reach 45 hryvnia to the dollar by the end of the year. Economist Oleh Hetman explained in a commentary to "Komersant Ukrainian" what is behind this forecast and why the National Bank is unlikely to restrain this growth.

“Well, look: our budget for the end of the year provides for a rate of 45 hryvnia to the dollar. Accordingly, the National Bank, which is essentially the largest player in the foreign exchange market, will most likely be heading for about this level by the end of the year. Accordingly, the average annual exchange rate will be somewhere in the range of 43 hryvnia to the dollar,” explained Hetman.

Hetman emphasized that there are no serious factors that could suddenly change the situation on the currency market.

“Given that there are no other factors that could affect the exchange rate, except for the National Bank and its foreign exchange reserves, we should not expect anything unexpected,” the expert said.

Thus, according to the economist, the hryvnia will gradually devalue by the end of the year, but this process will be slow and controlled.

“Therefore, the hryvnia will gradually, very slowly, devalue against the dollar and by the end of the year it will most likely reach the level of 45 hryvnia to the dollar,” he concluded.
