Most of the bridges in Kyiv are in a state of disrepair and some of them may fall. This was stated by Maksym Bakhmatov, chairman and founder of the Transformation Office, in an interview with the My-Ukraine TV channel.

According to him, according to research, 90% of bridges in Kyiv are in disrepair.

“The Metro Bridge is in disrepair, the Paton Bridge is in disrepair, and the Pivdennyi Bridge is in disrepair. The Metro Bridge and the Paton Bridge are at the fifth level of emergency. They cannot be used – if you drive on these bridges, they can fall down,”

– Bakhmatov said.

He noted that this is a formal report from technical experts. He added that the Ministry of Reconstruction, together with the National Security and Defence Council, had conducted a study of all key highways and communications in Kyiv and “issued a very specific and very truthful report”.

“90% of bridges in Kyiv are in disrepair. The accident rate is from 4 to 5,”

– he emphasised.

The state of bridges in Kyiv

In June 2023, the National Security and Defence Council decided to inspect bridges across the country, with the situation in Kyiv being particularly difficult.

Earlier, transport expert Dmytro Bespalov said that the capital’s Metro and Paton bridges were officially recognised as inoperable. According to him, even this status does not encourage local authorities to do anything about it.
