Former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will become an advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This was reported by The Independent, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Sunak is expected to advise the Ukrainian leader on economic recovery and attracting foreign investment.

What position will Sunak hold?

According to sources, the former British Prime Minister has joined the International Advisory Council on Economic Recovery under the President of Ukraine.

The position is unpaid.

Sunak will work in the group on attracting foreign investment.

Who else is on the advisory team

Earlier, President Zelensky appointed the following as his advisors:

  • Oksana Markarova — on recovery and investment;
  • Chrystia Freeland — on economic development.

Sunak is expected to work with them on developing strategies for Ukraine’s economic recovery and integration into global markets.

What Rishi Sunak said

Sunak himself said that it was an honor for him to support Ukraine during his tenure as prime minister.

He emphasized:

“The West needs a strong Ukraine, and a strong Ukraine needs a strong economy.”

Sunak also praised Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s leadership during a difficult period for the country.

Why this is important

Rishi Sunak’s appointment could have several strategic implications:

  • strengthening the confidence of international investors;
  • strengthening Ukraine’s partnership with the UK;
  • intensifying efforts to attract funding for reconstruction;
  • increasing the political weight of the International Advisory Board.

The UK is one of Ukraine’s key partners in the field of security and economic support.

Context of economic recovery

Ukraine needs large-scale investments for post-war reconstruction of infrastructure, energy, housing, and industry. The formation of an international advisory council is intended to ensure transparency, efficiency, and trust in the recovery process.
