FIFA has updated its ranking: Ukraine has dropped one place

11 July 2025 04:00

The International Football Federation (FIFA) has released an updated ranking of national teams, in which Ukraine has lost one position and now ranks 26th. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the International Football Federation(FIFA).

This classification is based on the results of the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches.

Why Ukraine slipped one place

After the previous ranking update in early April, the Ukrainian national team managed to play two friendly matches in the tournament in Canada. Serhiy Rebrov’s team lost to the tournament hosts (2:4) but defeated New Zealand (2:1). However, this was not enough to stay in the previous 25th position.

The Ukrainians were beaten by the Australian national team, which successfully qualified for the 2026 World Cup, finishing second in its group after Japan.

Currently, the Blue and Yellows’ point balance has decreased by 2.6 points to 1557.21, which has significantly reduced the gap with their closest pursuer, the Turkish national team (1553.19 points).

Top 10: new leaders

There have also been changes in the top ten strongest teams in the world:

  • Croatia returned to the top 10, displacing Italy;
  • Germany moved up to ninth place;
  • Portugal overtook the Netherlands after winning the League of Nations and took 6th place.

FIFA ranking leaders (July 2025):

  • Argentina – 1885.36
  • Spain – 1867.09
  • France – 1862.03
  • England – 1813.32
  • Brazil – 1777.69.

What’s next for the national team of Ukraine

The next test for the Blue and Yellows will be the selection for the 2026 World Cup, which will start in the fall.

The first match is scheduled for September 5, and the opponent will be a difficult one – the French national team.
