Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Canada, Mexico and the United States, will be the last in his career. The 40-year-old footballer said this during a speech at the TOURISE tourism forum in Saudi Arabia, where he currently plays for Al Nassr, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“This will definitely be my last World Cup”
“Of course it’s true, because I’ll be 41 years old and I think in these big competitions I don’t know… As I said, I’m enjoying this moment,” Ronaldo said when asked by reporters whether he plans to play in another World Cup.
Since 2006, when the World Cup was hosted by Germany, Cristiano Ronaldo has not missed a single World Cup, and 2026 will be his sixth in a row.
The footballer also commented on his recent words about his possible imminent retirement.
“This (in ten years – ed.) means ‘soon’ for me. People think that when I talk about retiring soon, it means in six months or a year. I’m joking!” laughed the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
“My body is still in shape”
Despite his age, Ronaldo emphasized that he feels good physically, continues to score goals and enjoys playing both for the club and the Portuguese national team.
“In football, I try to enjoy scoring goals. As you know, I am 40 years old and I try to enjoy the moment and keep moving forward. My body is in good shape, I think. As for my play for the national team, I score goals and help the team. I want to win titles. This is my life,” the footballer emphasized.
The next goal is the 2026 World Cup
Portugal has already guaranteed its participation in the final part of the World Cup to be held in North America. The next match of the national team is scheduled for March against Mexico.
Ronaldo continues to play for Al Nassr, showing good results and approaching the historic mark of 1000 official goals in his career.
